WellSpan hospitals earn national recognition from U.S. News & World Report for cardiovascular, rehabilitation, cancer and orthopedic care
YORK, Pa. (Aug. 4, 2026) – Several WellSpan hospitals have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report in its 2026-2027 Best Hospitals rankings, highlighting the health system's strength in key areas of care including cardiovascular services, rehabilitation, cancer treatment and orthopedic care.
"These recognitions reflect the expertise, compassion and commitment of our teams who deliver exceptional care every day," said Dr. Kevin L. Lewis, executive vice president and chief physician executive at WellSpan Health. "Most importantly, they demonstrate that patients across our communities can access nationally recognized care close to home, whether they need advanced heart care, rehabilitation services, cancer treatment or orthopedic procedures."
Cardiovascular Care
Cardiovascular care emerged as a particular strength across WellSpan this year. WellSpan York Hospital earned a new specialty ranking as the No. 5 hospital in Pennsylvania for cardiology, heart and vascular surgery, while also receiving High Performing recognition across a broad range of cardiovascular procedures and conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, heart arrhythmia, pacemaker implantation, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and aortic valve surgery. Additional heart care recognitions at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital, WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital and WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital reflect the depth and reach of WellSpan's cardiovascular network, helping more patients access high-quality heart and vascular care close to home.
Rehabilitation Care
WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital also earned statewide recognition, receiving a High Performing designation in rehabilitation and a new No. 8 regional rehabilitation ranking in Pennsylvania. The recognition highlights WellSpan's expertise in helping patients recover from serious injury, illness and surgery through comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services designed to restore function, independence and quality of life. As U.S. News & World Report expands its focus on post-acute care, the ranking reinforces WellSpan's leadership in rehabilitation across the region.
Cancer and Orthopedic Care
The rankings also underscore WellSpan's continued investment in cancer and orthopedic care. WellSpan York Hospital was recognized for colon and prostate cancer surgery, as well as treatment of leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, while WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital earned recognition for colon cancer surgery. Several hospitals across the system, including WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital and WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital, were recognized for orthopedic and musculoskeletal care, including knee replacement and hip fracture treatment. Together, the recognitions reflect WellSpan's commitment to providing advanced specialty care across its communities while expanding access to innovative treatment options and multidisciplinary expertise.
Broad recognition across the WellSpan network
In total, hospitals across the WellSpan system received recognition for excellence in a wide range of services, including treatment for COPD, diabetes, kidney failure, pneumonia and stroke, demonstrating the organization's ability to deliver high-quality care across both specialty and community hospital settings.
The U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings evaluate hospitals on factors including patient outcomes, patient experience and other quality measures to help patients identify hospitals that provide exceptional care. Recent methodology updates further increased the weighting of outcomes and patient experience measures, placing greater emphasis on the results patients achieve.
