Destination JAZZ
This two-day weekend event features Grammy Award® winner Joe Lovano Quartet and “rising stars quintet” with Patrick Bartley & Georgia Heers along with local student jazz bands from Waynesboro and Chambersburg. Headlining this inaugural festival on Saturday, April 27 at 7 p.m. is Grammy Award®–winning saxophonist and composer Joe Lovano and his quartet, including Leo Genovese (piano), John Menegon (bass), and Lamy Istrefi (drums). Performing at 5 p.m. before the quartet will be the Chambersburg Area Senior High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Nicole Albright. On Sunday, April 28 at 5 p.m., a very special all-star quintet will feature some of the most highly regarded young players from New York City, including Grammy® nominated Patrick Bartley (alto saxophone), Georgia Heers (vocals), Alexander Claffy (bass), William Schwartzman (piano), and Joe Peri (drums). Performing at 3 p.m. before the quintet will be the Waynesboro Area Senior High Jazz Band under the direction of Christopher Ritter, and the Waynesboro Area Middle School Jazz Band under the direction of Phil Thorpe.
