About Us
Mateo’s Family Restaurant is a family-owned Mexican-American restaurant in Waynesboro, PA, built on a love for fresh food and community. I’m Chef Juan Lira, and I named the restaurant after my firstborn son, Mateo. After years of cooking in the local area, I wanted to create a place where people can enjoy bold flavors in a welcoming, small-town setting.
We serve a mix of authentic Mexican dishes and American favorites, all made from scratch with quality ingredients. Customer favorites include our cheesesteaks, hand-patted burgers cooked in beef tallow, Nashville fried chicken sandwiches, and General Tso’s chicken. Guests also love our tacos and our Busch Burrito with smoked brisket and raspberry chipotle BBQ, Chef’s sopes made with house corn dough and barbacoa, smoked gouda mac and cheese with chicken, and our house-made crab dip served with garlic sourdough.
If you’ve got a sweet tooth, don’t miss our vanilla bourbon crème brûlée cheesecake, made with vanilla bean, bourbon reduction, and a graham cracker crust.
When you dine in, we’ll start you off with complimentary chips and salsa. We’re also a BYOB restaurant and like to keep things fun with rotating weekly specials.
