Gather on Cemetery Trail for a ceremonial planting and dedication of an American Fringe Tree (chionanthus virginicus).\n\nThis year's selection is a fragrant flowering tree\, native to the savannas and lowlands of the southeastern United States. It grows to a height and width of 20 to 30 feet. The historic White Fringe Tree\, a favorite of George Washington\, blooms in late spring\, with an abundance of feathery white flowers appearing from a two-week blooming period providing a showy display. The flowers give off a sweet\, lilac-like smell\, particularly in the evening.\n\nKeep the Arbor Day celebration going by planting a tree at home!
