SUMMARY:Arbor Day Celebration at Renfrew
DESCRIPTION:150th Arbor Day Celebration\n\nFriday\, April 29\, 2022 at 2:00pm\n\n\n\nFREE ADMISSION\n\nFounded in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton in Nebraska City\, Nebraska\, National Arbor Day is observed annually on the last Friday in April. On the very first Arbor Day\, April 10\, 1872\, an estimated one million trees were planted! Each year\, thousands around the country celebrate together by planting trees in their communities.\n\nJoin the Borough of Waynesboro Council\, Shade Tree Commission\, and Renfrew Committee\, Inc. at Renfrew Museum & Park on Friday\, April 29\, 2022 at 2:00pm as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day! Gather on Cemetery Trail for a ceremonial planting and dedication of an American Fringe Tree (chionanthus virginicus).\n\nThis year's selection is a fragrant flowering tree\, native to the savannas and lowlands of the southeastern United States. It grows to a height and width of 20 to 30 feet. The historic White Fringe Tree\, a favorite of George Washington\, blooms in late spring\, with an abundance of feathery white flowers appearing from a two-week blooming period providing a showy display. The flowers give off a sweet\, lilac-like smell\, particularly in the evening.\n\nKeep the Arbor Day celebration going by planting a tree at home! Free evergreen seedlings will be available to all attendees (while supplies last) by our friends at Bartlett Tree Experts.\n\nFor more information on Arbor Day at Renfrew\, please visit www.renfrewmuseum.org/arborday/\, call (717) 762-4723\, or email info@renfrewmuseum.org.
